Welcome to www.dunfanaghy.info - all you needed to know about one of Ireland's top holiday destinations.
. . . Stuck in traffic, thinking of holidays in Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal and all its amazing festivals and events.
**** me!! This traffic jam nightmare . . . the car queues continue to lengthen, my hands continue to grip the steering wheel with growing tension! Maybe this will improve my golf grip? one can only hope! That would certainly be a bonus for the upcoming golf trip away to Dunfanaghy in the county of Donegal, what a beautiful part of Ireland. Talk about a more laid back lifestyle, we had such a good time up there last year for the Halloween Madness Festival and Events weekend and Madness it certainly was with an amazing Torchlight Procession and Firework display, what an event!!!!!!!! We have booked the golf trip to coincide with the grand Seafood Festival the last weekend in May, can`t wait to sample some lobster barbeque freshly caught off the stunning headlands surrounding the coastal village of Dunfanaghy.
I have plenty of time to reminisce on that relaxing holiday as I wait endlessly in this ******* roadblock which is my journey to and from work, surely I can`t be the only person wishing to get away from it all?
Yeah . . . Dunfanaghy . . . that first morning after we arrived, down on the long beach, had to go back to get the shades as the sun was glinting so strongly off the beautiful pale sands and the surf, the kids had a ball with the boards catching waves whilst we sat sun bathing in the dunes. No problem finding a place to put down your towel on that beach, ten people on the beach would be a crowd! None of this pressure of work and traffic . . . the only pressure in Dunfanaghy is solely confined to choosing which coffee shop or which bar to go to next, or even to sit in the windows of the Golf club watching with a degree of amusement, the efforts of some trying to get off the first tee and enjoying the excitement on the last green – yes, that is real pressure!! What a friendly place, and modest green fees too!
As for the traffic jams the only one you will find in Dunfanaghy is behind the string of ponies crossing the street from the beach to the stables behind Arnolds Hotel with their youthful riders that remind you of Thelwell`s cartoon figures, but the kids get a real kick out of it – no pun intended!
The great thing about Dunfanaghy is that you have no problem getting accommodation even at short notice – we were spoiled for choice from great hotels (and an amazing spa!), guesthouses, plenty of B & B`s, even a converted railway carriage at the local Hostel – in the village, near the beach, out in the countryside; take your pick, your biggest problem is making a choice!
What a lifestyle they have up there . . . Everyone greets everyone else and has time to stop, chat and catch up on local news. Hard work is the norm but they certainly know how to have fun, concerts, live music gigs, festivals and
loads going on all the time for kids and adults alike. Breathing in that clean and delicious Atlantic sea air would really make a difference to all the exhaust fumes i`m now breathing in and I remember that pod of porpoises we watched behind the 8th green where else could you see that whilst playing golf??
